Preserving Legacies

We’re proud to share an article from the September/October issue of Green Fire Times, written by our great friend Melanie Margarita Kirby of Zia Queenbees, highlighting the continued work of The Flower Path and the Preserving Legacies: Pollinator/Water is Life Collaboration.

Addelina is one of the Indigenous matriarchs who helped bring The Flower Path to life, alongside Melanie Margarita Kirby, Beata Tsosie Peña and Roxanne Swentzell. The work grew from a shared commitment to cultural and ethical seed gathering and saving, pollinator and habitat regeneration, and honoring the interconnected relationships between people, land, water, food and climate.

Today, that work continues to grow through The Flower Path Conservancy and a three-year Preserving Legacies collaboration with Paula García and the New Mexico Acequia Association, connecting local stewardship and cultural knowledge with broader efforts to protect heritage places and practices in the face of climate change.

This is some of the important work Addie is involved in behind the scenes, and we’re excited to share a glimpse of it with our DBN community.

A huge thank you to Melanie for sharing this story and to everyone helping this work continue.
